Manchester United are close to announcing two new signings which will significantly strengthen their backline but INEOS are yet to make headway in their bid to sign a defensive midfielder.
Casemiro was impressive against Manchester City in the Community Shield but he cannot be trusted for the full season considering his poor displays last term and his advancing years.
With the Brazilian not moved on as yet, a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte has not materialised and unless the Ligue 1 side reduce their asking price, the Red Devils will likely recruit someone who will be much cheaper.
Among those options are Sander Berge of recently-relegated Burnley and while fans might not be too enthused with the signing, the Norwegian has impressed for both the Clarets and Sheffield United in the Premier League.
United’s CDM hunt
However, Burnley’s demands have skyrocketed since United’s entry and that is why the new co-owners are prepared to look elsewhere including a return on loan for Sofyan Amrabat.
Youssouf Fofana is another name that is frequently linked with the 20-time English league champions but AC Milan are also interested in the Frenchman.
As per Sky Italia (as relayed by Football Italia), United are ready with an “important offer” and are ahead of Milan in the race who are unlikely to match United’s bid.
Monaco are asking for at least €25 million and the midfielder did not play in the game against Barcelona in preparation for his move away which is certain as his contract ends next summer and Monaco do not want to lose him on a free.
“Talks with Manchester United are ongoing, and the Red Devils are ready to make an important offer in line with Monaco’s requests,” transfer pundit Luca Cilli said during the Tuesday afternoon show.
United ahead of Milan for Fofana
“Milan, right now, are way, way behind. Unless there are unexpected surprises, Milan will have to look for alternatives for the midfield.”
Fofana scored four times while assisting as many in 35 games for his club as they qualified for the Champions League via their second-place league finish.
He can play all across the midfield and appeared off the bench thrice for France during the recently-concluded European Championships.
His displays at club level saw him earn plenty of praise from former Premier League great Cesc Fabregas who felt he would be a perfect fit for the English top-flight.
“He’s a very dynamic and strong player, good on the ball, a modern type of player, aggressive, can jump, he’s box to box. I really like Fofana and I think he fits very well with the Premier League style.”
