Manchester United linked Ben Chilwell is far from pleased with his situation at Chelsea following a managerial change.
Erik ten Hag will head into the new Premier League season without his two senior left-backs. The Dutch coach has already revealed Tyrell Malacia is not available for the start of the new campaign.
Now, Shaw has also been ruled out for the opening games due to a calf injury suffered during pre-season training. He is expected to remain on the sidelines at least until the September international break.
United were already exploring the possibility of signing a new left-back, and Shaw’s unavailability is going to further intensify their search.
Amid this predicament at Carrington, the unstable—for lack of a better word—situation at Chelsea might help Ten Hag.
According to talkSPORT, Chilwell was attracting loose interest from United a few weeks ago.
It remains unclear if United are still interested in the England international. However, the report suggests that now it has become a lot easier to secure the player’s services.
Chelsea continue to buy and sell players for fun, and the 27-year-old could be the next player to head out the exit door at Stamford Bridge.
It is claimed Chilwell is “frustrated” at Chelsea after enduring a tough pre-season, wherein he was handed limited game time by new manager Enzo Maresca.
Maresca has suggested Chilwell is unlikely to be a regular fixture in his lineup as he is looking to deploy inverted full-backs.
In one of his press conferences, the former Leicester City boss shed light on his approach and talked about his full-backs, including Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga. However, he did not name Chilwell.
TalkSPORT states that Chilwell is a player to “keep an eye on” between now and the end of the transfer window. Considering United’s interest and Shaw’s absence, United fans should certainly pay special attention to the Chelsea star’s situation.
