United star makes startling admission about his fitness, fans will be concerned

Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund has admitted he may not be fully ready to play for 90 minutes, off the back of an injury that kept him sidelined for around two months.

Hojlund picked up a hamstring injury during United’s pre-season clash against Arsenal.

He only got his first start for the club earlier this month, when he was named in Erik ten Hag’s XI to face Porto in the Europa League. He marked the occasion with a goal as he managed 68 minutes of action.

Ten Hag handed him another start in United’s next match against Aston Villa but the forward was largely ineffective as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw. Hojlund was withdrawn after 64 minutes at Villa Park.

Prior to the Porto game, he had come off the bench in clashes against Crystal Palace, FC Twente and Tottenham Hotspur, with summer signing Joshua Zirkzee being handed the responsibility of leading the line for the Red Devils.

Hojlund is currently with the Denmark national team for their upcoming Nations League meetings with Spain and Switzerland on Saturday and Tuesday respectively.

Ahead of the Spain fixture, he spoke to reporters and was asked whether he feels ready enough to play a full 90 minutes.

He responded, “There is no point in rushing things and risking another injury.”

“My body feels good again. I might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if I also use my brain a little bit, I don’t think 90 minutes on Saturday against Spain is a good idea.”

He added, “I’ve lost a little weight, but it doesn’t matter. I know there are some benefits to being a little lighter and some benefits to being a little heavier.”

“I’m not focused on the scale.”

“I’ve gotten used to the fact that my weight fluctuates a little bit.”

United return to action on Saturday, October 19 when they host Thomas Fran’s Brentford at Old Trafford.
