After strengthening at the back, Manchester United are currently focussed on improving their midfield but a deal for Manuel Ugarte has been hard to get over the line.
Paris Saint-Germain’s exorbitant demands despite the Uruguayan not being in manager Luis Enrique’s plans was something INEOS refused to bow down to.
The Red Devils are still locked in talks with the formula to complete the deal still being discussed — either a loan with an obligation to buy or a permanent exit should the Old Trafford side manage to raise funds through player sales.
Moving superstars on has not proved easy for the new co-owners with Casemiro set to stay after his impressive early season form while Victor Lindelof’s injury means he is not going anywhere this summer.
Player sales needed
Jadon Sancho could be a high-profile departure but with the Ligue 1 side’s acquisition of Desire Doue, no further reports have emerged regarding their interest.
Juventus are eyeing a loan deal which will not help United currently. That leaves only Scott McTominay as the realistic sale option.
Following Fulham’s signing of reported United target Sander Berge, they have exited the race for the Scot which leaves only Napoli in the race.
As per Calciomercato, the United academy graduate would love to train under Antonio Conte but the Serie A side simply do not have the cash required to land the Scotland international.
United want €30 million guaranteed to let go of the 27-year-old, and until Victor Osimhen’s sale is realised, the 22/23 league winners will not be able to offer McTominay and exit route out of Old Trafford.
“Napoli were convinced they could easily get Scott McTominay, a Scottish midfielder who is dying to be trained by Antonio Conte.
McTominay wants Napoli move
“Manchester United do not share the same opinion and in order to let McTominay go, they are asking for a figure that is out of Napoli’s reach: 30 million euros.”
Erik ten Hag has time and again reiterated his desire to keep the midfielder and the player also would love to stay back at his boyhood club despite whatever the Italian media are claiming.
If he ends up staying, Ugarte will only arrive on a loan which should not be too much of an issue but the obligation amount might be high as opposed to a sale this summer.
A lot can change in the next week or so and expect this saga to continue till the end of the window.
