United plotting shock sale of key star amid massive concerns over his “lifestyle off the pitch” – report

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for Marcus Rashford as early as next month when the winter transfer window opens.

Rashford – who has scored 138 goals for United since he broke into the limelight in 2016 – has over the past few months seen his performances dramatically decline.

In the 2022/23 season, he found the back of the net on 30 occasions across all competitions, a career-high tally. His form that season prompted United to reward him with a new bumper deal worth around £325,000-per-week.

However, the campaign after, Rashford only managed eight goals, in a year that was also marred by multiple disciplinary issues. So far this term, he has netted seven times in 22 appearances across all competitions.

According to Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, United are open to offloading Rashford, who no longer seems to be untouchable at Old Trafford.

“Marcus Rashford is fighting to save his Manchester United career after Telegraph Sport learnt the club were open to selling him last summer and remain receptive to bids being made.”

“United are said to be concerned about Rashford’s lifestyle off the pitch and there are fears he is no longer as focused on his football as he could be. Sources have said he is dealing with a number of off-field distractions that are affecting his performances.”

“Rashford still has a chance to turn things around under new manager Ruben Amorim and has scored three goals in five appearances under him, but time is running out and United need to see proof of his hunger and desire to do so.”

Edwards notes that there are not many clubs in Europe who could afford Rashford’s mega wages.

Possible transfer destinations for the England international include Paris Saint-Germain and the Saudi Pro League.

The Telegraph’s information was somewhat corroborated by Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg wrote on X, “Manchester United would sell Marcus Rashford at the latest by the summer and would already be open to top offers in the winter. The club acknowledge his development under Ruben Amorim but consider him definitely not unsellable.”

“One reason why a sale is being discussed: if he were to leave the club due to his very high salary, it would free up critical points in the complicated Financial Fair Play system, which, in turn, would give the Red Devils more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.”

Rashford’s sale would represent pure profit for United since he is a homegrown player.
