United issue crucial injury update on midfield star after first taste of action in eight months

Manchester United believe that Dan Gore’s recent spell on the sidelines will benefit him positively throughout the rest of his playing career.

Last week, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Gore made his return to light training after a prolonged lay-off.

The midfielder suffered a freak injury just one appearance into his loan spell with League One club Port Vale.

It was stated that he picked up the issue – a dislocation of the shoulder – during a personal training session.

The problem required Gore to undergo surgery.

Gore finally made his first appearance of the 2024/25 season for the U21s as they met Doncaster Rovers on Friday night. The 19-year-old captained the team as they earned a superb 3-3 draw in the EFL Trophy and even claimed a bonus point from a penalty shootout victory.

It was the first time Gore was in action since January 27.

The Manchester Evening News notes that there was speculation that Gore would only play for 45 minutes in an effort to build up his match fitness gradually, but he exceeded expectations and managed an hour.

U21 assistant manager Dave Hughes said about Gore, “He’s come back from injury and it goes back to what we discussed, keeping your focus when you’re out of the game and doing work in the gym. He’s had a setback.”

“You’ve got to able to manage your own emotions and expectations. Being able to realise where you are and also for every professional player, they are going to have a setback with an injury.”

“If you go through your journey without a setback, I’m not sure you develop the tools to understand how to deal with that further down the line. I’m sure Dan would have reflected on that.”

“He’s probably developed patience and personal awareness at how to manage himself at being disappointed that he can’t play and that will all stand him in good stead.”

Hughes added, “It might be in a few weeks if he gets a suspension, or whatever it is, they are all skills to equip young, high-potential individuals to be successful in the long term.”

Up next for Travis Binnion’s men is Norwich on Friday – another opportunity for Gore to get more minutes under his belt.
