Unai Emery makes grim promise to Ten Hag that may ultimately cost the Dutchman his job

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has promised that there will be no mercy for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag ahead of
Sunday’s meeting at Villa Park.

United will be heading into the match on extremely poor form, having failed to win any of their last four games across all competitions.

The last time Ten Hag’s men tasted victory was on 17th September, when they beat Barnsley 7-0 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.

The Dutchman is undoubtedly under immense pressure to secure a victory against Villa, as anything short of that could result in his dismissal.

The upside for Ten Hag is that he possesses an excellent record against Emery. Since he was appointed United gaffer, Ten Hag has won four of their five encounters.

However, he now faces the daunting challenge of beating Villa, who are on a high after their mid-week victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Emery spoke to the press [via The Daily Mail] and said, “Wednesday was a fantastic day and the fans were very happy but now I want to win on Sunday. I have the same ambition since I arrived here.”

“We have to be demanding in every match. Maybe we achieved certain objectives, like Champions League football, sooner than we were expecting, but the example I have is to be demanding and not to relax.”

“Being consistent in the Premier League is the first objective we have.”

He added, “I have to respect Erik ten Hag because he has beaten me more than I have beaten him. He won the FA Cup last year, beating Manchester City in the Final, which is very difficult. He is a very good coach.”

“At Manchester United there are huge demands to achieve a lot of objectives but he is in a process. They are an experienced group of players. They are not achieving consistent results in the league but in one game, they can show their quality with a huge performance.

“I will prepare the match more than I did the Bayern game. It is a winning club and it is still a group of winners.”

Villa vs. United kicks off at 14:00 BST.
