Three United braces, but this man was the real hero in 7-0 drubbing of Barnsley

Manchester United thrashed Barnsley 7-0 in the third round of the EFL Cup. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Altay Bayindir 6 – Not much to do as he wasn’t tested much. A good performance on the ball.

Diogo Dalot 8 – Showed remarkable attacking intent as he constantly got forward. Flawless on the ball and appeared to hardly get out of second or third gear. A great night for Dalot.

Harry Maguire 7 – Very solid and almost always came out on top in his duels, both aerially and on the ground.

Jonny Evans 7 – Got on comfortably and did his job. Very assured display.

Toby Collyer 5 – Endured a difficult start to the game in an unfamiliar left-back position. Made some mistakes that saw Barnsley awarded free-kicks in dangerous situations. Grew into the game as it proceeded and eventually settled in.

Casemiro 4 – Sloppy at times with a number of unnecessary sliding challenges but strung some nices passes as the match proceeded. Was more useful in forward areas.

Manuel Ugarte 6 – Very busy in the middle of the park and made a couple of good runs forward. However, there were a number of late tackles and reckless fouls that he will need to cut from his game if he is to succeed in England.

Christian Eriksen 9 – Sensational display. Two goals and an assist. Ran the show for United in midfield and barely put a foot wrong.

Alejandro Garnacho 9 – Unlucky not to bag a hat-trick as he missed a sitter just before his substitution. In addition to his double, he set up Rashford well for United’s first of the evening.

Marcus Rashford 9 – Superb opening goal to kickstart the scoring for United. Completed his brace in the second half with another fantastic finish. Beyond his goals, he looked confident, electric and was a constant threat to Barnsley.

Antony 8 – Showed a lot of attacking impetus and did well to convert his penalty. Much better from the Brazilian.

Substitutes

Bruno Fernandes 7 – Had an impact when he came on, highlighted by an assist for Eriksen’s goal.

Joshua Zirkzee 6 – Some great touches to link up play. Had one or two shots but was denied.

Noussair Mazraoui 6 – Did his job. An assured and composed display.

Matthijs de Ligt 6 – Good when he came on.

Amad Diallo 6 – Not enough time to make an impact.

Erik ten Hag 10 – Coached a great game. United were brilliant from start to finish and were dominant. At no stage did the side look in trouble. Undoubtedly United’s hero and deserves a lot of credit for the resounding victory.
