Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat is reportedly reborn at Fiorentina and will only leave if the Red Devils come calling for him.
The Moroccan international spent last season on loan at Old Trafford largely fulfilling a bit-part role in the squad.
Unsurprisingly, the Red Devils did not pay the fixed fee of €20 million to make the deal permanent in June but they still maintain an interest in bringing the player in if they cannot obtain higher priority targets like Manuel Ugarte.
Numerous clubs have shown interest in the 2022 World Cup star as Fenerbahce have had a couple of bids rejected for him.
Amrabat had previously appeared desperate to leave La Viola but he recently played 60 minutes in a pre-season friendly and his coach claimed that he would be very happy to continue working with the midfielder should he remain in Florence.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport build further on this by reporting that “things in life can change and in this case they have changed”, as Amrabat could now be open to remaining at Fiorentina.
The Fiorentina coach, Raffaele Palladino, is credited with “finding the right feeling” with the player and he could definitely start this weekend when the Serie A season kicks off.
The paper reports that Amrabat’s stance on his future has transformed from “‘I’m leaving at all costs’ to ‘I’m leaving only if Manchester United calls me (again)’ because Fenerbahce is not a destination that excites him, despite Mourinho on the bench.”
Another complexity for United’s interest is the fact that the Italians are “asking seventeen-eighteen million to sell him and since the Red Devils already decided in June not to go down the road of a buyout for twenty million, it is clear how difficult” a move back to Old Trafford could be.
What’s more, such has been the change in feeling that Fiorentina may offer the Morocco international a new deal with his current one expiring in 2026.
Were Amrabat to stay in Italy, it would be quite the turnaround considering he has seemed destined to leave since the start of the summer.
United do remain an option and until they sign a new midfielder, a deal cannot be ruled out. It is logical to assume they could pay Fiorentina’s asking price if they really wanted considering the offers they have already made for Ugarte.
