Manchester United confirmed the additions of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich on Tuesday but they still want more, especially someone in midfield.
Manuel Ugarte was Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice but Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price was beyond the club’s reach and thus, they exited the race.
The Red Devils were exploring alternatives like Sander Berge and Youssouf Fofana but the Ligue 1 side’s interest in Jadon Sancho has opened up the possibility of another potential assault on the Uruguayan.
With PSG standing firm on their asking price, the 20-time English league champions are also expected to adopt a hard negotiating stance for the England international.
Sancho-PSG talks
As per RMC Sport, the team from Old Trafford are insistent on receiving more than €60 million for the 24-year-old and that means any potential move this summer will likely not be realised soon.
“The management of the Parisian club want to attract a renowned player who would be capable of distributing good balls for his partners. Already mentioned in the Parisian orbit, Jadon Sancho could be this hoped-for reinforcement. But nothing is done.
“First because it will be necessary to find common ground with Manchester United on the financial aspect which is not an easy task while the English value their player at more than €60M. Then because financially PSG has a framework to respect and will not be tempted by all its desires.”
The Englishman would very much like to jump ship to France despite patching things up with the manager and had agreed personal terms long back. PSG remain in touch with the player’s entourage and initial contact has been established.
United playing hardball
Following the Parisian team’s recruitment of Desire Doue, it will be difficult for them to pay over the odds for Sancho and hence, they were exploring a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
But keeping in mind United’s interest in Ugarte, PSG will likely not find it easy to negotiate for Sancho unless they change their own rigid stance on the Uruguay international.
Whether a swap deal is possible remains to be seen but it would certainly suit both parties. United have plenty of riches out wide but need a defensive midfielder.
Getting rid of Sancho’s enormous wages would also be a big help and with two years left in his current deal, this summer might be the last chance at earning a decent fee from his sale.
