Heartbreak for United as key new signing ruled out of crunch match against Liverpool – report

Manchester United will not be able to include Manuel Ugarte in the squad for the key clash against Liverpool this Sunday after the club failed to register the midfielder in time.

Ben Jacobs (Give Me Sport) reveals Ugarte will “not be registered in time” for the North West derby against United’s bitter rivals.

The deadline was today at 12pm for the Uruguayan international to have been included by Erik ten Hag in his match-day squad.

However, the reporter contends club officials were in “no rush” to meet this deadline as there is acceptance Ugarte “isn’t ready to start or feature heavily.”

Ugarte emerged as United’s first-choice target to upgrade their midfield unit this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain’s initial valuation of their midfielder – believed to be as high as €70 million – threatened to derail the move, with Old Trafford officials adamant they would not pay such a fee.

Eventually, after protracted negotiations taking place over multiple weeks, a compromise was eventually struck and United were able to secure their number one target.

On Tuesday, Old Trafford officials agreed to a deal worth a potential €60 million – an initial €50 million fee with a further €10 million in conditional add-ons – with the Uruguayan international flying to Manchester the next day.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Ugarte has completed his medical and signed all the necessary paperwork to complete the move, but it appears the club never had any plans for him to feature in this weekend’s fixture.

Ugarte has not played a single minute of PSG’s season so far with Luis Enrique leaving the 23-year-old out of his matchday squads.

As such, the midfielder is unlikely to be completely match fit and the intense cauldron of a Manchester United-Liverpool derby would be an unforgiving environment for a player not fully up to speed.
