Manchester United have secured back-to-back wins for the first time this campaign to ease the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag after a difficult start to the season.
The Red Devils had lost three of their opening four games in all competitions and INEOS had given the Dutchman four games post the international break to turn the team’s fortunes around or risk the sack.
His team have responded in stunning fashion, netting 10 goals in their last two games — a 3-0 demolition of Southampton in the Premier League and a stunning 7-0 annihilation of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
While many will point to the fact that the cup win was against a League One team, Ten Hag’s team can only beat what is put in front of them and they did so in clinical fashion in midweek.
All wingers in red-hot form
The biggest positive from the game was the fact that all of the wingers are in red-hot form with under-pressure Marcus Rashford netting three goals in the last two games, including a brace on Tuesday.
Alejandro Garnacho also got himself two goals against Barnsley while Antony scored one from the penalty spot. Add this to Amad Diallo’s strong league form and it is clear to see that the manager has a problem of plenty at the moment.
It is a refreshing change from last term when the Dutchman hardly ever had the luxury of picking his strongest XI due to the numerous injuries throughout the squad.
The Ivorian has one goal and one assist from four starts and while his numbers might look low, his creative spark from the right wing has really stood out in games.
And Givemesport have now revealed that despite the Argentine’s four goals from two starts, Ten Hag is poised to select Amad ahead of him for the game at Selhurst Park.
“Garnacho undoubtedly has something special about him, and a bond with the Manchester United crowd, but it is Diallo who really has earned the plaudits this season.
“The fact he only came on as a substitute late on in the Carabao Cup this week is testament to the minutes he has already earned rather than any reflection on his status dropping.
Amad to start vs Palace
“He has started three of their four Premier League matches and insiders believe he is expected to have a very good chance of lining up again from kick-off when Manchester United go to Selhurst Park on Saturday.”
The report also makes clear that the Argentina international would prefer to play on the left-wing but with the former Ajax coach keen to see Rashford continue his goalscoring run, he is likely to earn most of his minutes on the right.
He is set to compete against Amad for that spot and will be asked to return to his favourite role should the Mancunian be rested or asked to play up front, as he did against Barnsley.
And despite scoring, Antony is considered to be below the aforementioned duo on the right and he will likely be rotated for cup games or used as an impact sub.
