Confirmed United XI vs Brighton: Garnacho doesn’t start, team unchanged, no Sancho in squad

Matthijs de Ligt will have to wait for his first start for Manchester United as he is once again named on the bench for this lunchtime’s Premier League clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Harry Maguire starts once again alongside Lisandro Martinez in the centre back roles.

The team is unchanged from the one that beat Fulham last Friday.

Noussair Mazraoui is at right back and Diogo Dalot on the left.

Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof and Leny Yoro are all out injured.

Andre Onana will be in goal.

The midfield also remains the same, with Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo the starters and Christian Eriksen, Scott McTominay and Toby Collyer on the bench.

In the attacking positions, many fans expected a return to the starting lineup for Alejandro Garnacho, but this is not the case and he is once again named on the bench.

Mason Mount will once again play in the number 10 role, with Bruno Fernandes the false 9.

Amad Diallo starts on the right wing despite the tragic news of the passing of his mother yesterday. Marcus Rashford is once again on the left wing.

Joshua Zirkzee is another waiting to make his first start despite scoring the winner against Fulham. He, too, is on the bench. Rasmus Hojlund is injured.

Also on the bench are goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans and Antony.

This means another snub for Jadon Sancho and it therefore looks as if the rapprochement between him and manager Erik ten Hag was short-lived.

Where this leaves the club as far as his transfer status goes is anyone’s guess. There is simply no club willing to pay anything close to the asking price of £40 million and United do not want to send him back out on loan.

Juventus are the only realistic suitors at the moment but he is only their fourth option and they would require a hefty sum from the sale of Federico Chiesa to afford him.

Kick off at the Amex is at 12.30pm.
