Chelsea have submit an “official bid” for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The Italian transfer expert states the London club have tabled an “initial loan proposal” for the 24-year-old winger who is “open” to a move to the capital.

The bid is understood to “similar to terms offered by Juventus” with the Serie A side proposing their own loan offer to sign Sancho earlier this week.
United rejected the proposal, however, as it did not satisfy the financial requirements the club are looking for to sanction the winger’s departure from Old Trafford on loan. Juventus’s loan offer included a sizeable fee but only provided partial cover for Sancho’s considerable wage packet, requesting United cover the rest.
Old Trafford officials were not interested in this arrangement and negotiations between the two clubs stalled with Sancho himself expressing a preference to join Chelsea over the Italian club.
Romano reveals the “total package” offered by United’s Premier League rival is “higher” than the one received from Juventus, indicating it is more likely to be accepted. Officials from the two rivals have been locked in negotiations over the past few days.
The Italian transfer guru suggests Sancho is “keen [on] joining Chelsea” and it will now be up to the Red Devils to “decide” whether to accept or continue pushing for a permanent deal.
United entered the summer transfer window wanting Sancho to depart on a permanent transfer. The club set an asking price of £40 million for the winger but, given the complete lack of interest in this demand from potential suitors, officials are reported to have dropped this figure down to £25 million.
Chelsea were reported to “prefer” a permanent deal for Sancho but the unresolved future of their own unwanted winger, Raheem Sterling, is likely to be preventing the London club from pursuing such a deal.
Instead, it appears the Blues feel a loan move is the best short-term solution to secure a player they hold a long-standing interest in.
From United’s perspective, they are keen to shift Sancho as his continued presence at Old Trafford is an uncomfortable one, while his expensive wages are a financial burden. Whether this combination is enough to make the club’s executive branch compromise on their desired exit for the 24-year-old remains to be seen.
