Confirmed United XI vs Bournemouth: Maguire, Ugarte, Mainoo and Zirkzee start, Rashford and De Ligt not in squad
Marcus Rashford and Matthijs de Ligt are both once again missing from the Manchester United squad as they prepare to face Bournemouth this afternoon.
Rashford looks to be on his way out of the club after an ill-considered interview in which he said he was ready for a new challenge.
De Ligt was ill for the last match against Spurs on Thursday so it is likely he has not recovered in time.
Mason Mount is also out after another injury setback that will keep him on the sidelines for several weeks. Luke Shaw is still injured.
Andre Onana will be in goal.
The back three will be Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez. Victor Lindelof picked up an injury in that game. His place in the squad is taken by midfielder Toby Collyer.
Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot are the wing backs, with the Portuguese switching to the right.
Kobbie Mainoo comes into the midfield alongside Manu Ugarte.
Bruno Fernandes, Amad and Joshua Zirkzee start up front.
On the subs bench, Altay Bayindir is the backup goalkeeper.
Jonny Evans and Leny Yoro are the defensice reinforcements.
Casemiro, Collyer and Christian Eriksen are the midfield subs.
The attacking subs are Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.
The absence of Garnacho from another starting lineup suggests all is still not well between him and manager Ruben Amorim.
Kick off at Old Trafford is at 2pm.

Academy wonderkid who has been on fire in front of goal this season has “attracted the interest of Amorim” – report
Manchester United’s strikers have not exactly set the stage alight this season with Rasmus Hojlund failing to impress in the last two games.
In fact, it was Joshua Zirkzee who impressed more than the Dane in his short cameo against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. But the Dutchman’s future remains in the air.
With Marcus Rashford already announcing his desire to leave, Ruben Amorim needs help up front and the solution could come from within the academy.
There has been a lot of hype built up around Chido Obi since he switched from the Emirates to Old Trafford but it is his U18 teammate Gabriele Biancheri who has caught the eye of coaches.
Biancheri on fire
He has been on fire for the U18s, netting eight times in six games in the U18 league while grabbing a stunning hat-trick in the 5-0 FA Youth Cup win over Coventry this week.
The Welshman has impressed for the reserves as well, scoring twice in the PL 2 while also netting thrice in the UEFA Youth League.
According to Givemesport, Amorim has been hugely impressed with the 18-year-old and it is only a matter of time before he is called up for first team training.
“Welshman Gabriele Biancheri grabbed a hat-trick to Obi-Martin’s brace in the 5-0 FA Youth Cup win over Coventry this week. It’s an indicator that United’s production line of talent is still in full flow.
Amorim impressed
“Biancheri has now scored eight goals in six appearances in the Under-18 league and has already attracted the interest of Amorim and his coaches along with Obi-Martin.”
The report also adds that Amorim will not throw the youngster into the deep end just yet and is not looking to bring through any young strikers currently, rather adopting a wait-and-watch policy.
United have quite a few promising strikers coming up through the system and apart from the former Arsenal youth star and Biancheri, there is also Ethan Wheatley waiting for his first opportunity under Amorim.
It will be interesting to see what Amorim’s plans are and whether the club send anyone of them out on loan. Wheatley is attracting plenty of interest and a temporary move away could help him catch the coach’s eye.

United superstar who has “not got many close friends” has lost the dressing room with latest comments – report
Despite the heartbreaking loss against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, it is clear to see that Ruben Amorim has got his players playing an attractive brand of football.
However, despite the on-field heroics, off-field issues continue to plague the team with Marcus Rashford’s interview with Henry Winter creating all the headlines in the past week.
Ruben Amorim took the bold decision to drop the Mancunian for the all-important Manchester derby and despite his absence, the team emerged triumphant.
Since that interview dropped, the Englishman has also been left out of the matchday squad for the tie against Spurs and is likely to miss the Bournemouth game as well, as alluded to by the head coach.
Dressing room not happy with Rashford
The Sun have now revealed that the dressing room has not taken too kindly to Rashford’s comments about leaving especially as it came after the team defeated Manchester City in stunning fashion.
The report also added that with Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba no longer at the football club, the 27-year-old does not have too many friends and this latest move seems to have alienated him further.
A source told the publication, “Some of the players are really annoyed at what Marcus said and why he chose to say it at that time.
“They were all buzzing after beating City and then he basically put in a transfer request after being dropped for one game. He’s not got many close friends in the squad anymore after the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard left.
Rashford’s future up in the air
“So he’s pretty quiet and doesn’t really act as a leader. More is expected of him but he doesn’t seem interested, despite having been in the first team for eight years.”
The United academy graduate does not have too many places to go if he does leave his boyhood club with not many clubs in a position to pay INEOS’ asking price as well as the player’s humongous £375,000 per week (as per capology).
So far the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have removed themselves from the running with the big clubs only capable of offering a loan exit, something that the Red Devils are unlikely to sanction.
Saudi Arabia remains a possibility but Rashford does not seem to be interested in a move to the Middle East just yet. A huge conundrum for the club to solve.

14 clearances, 100% ground duels won: United youngster shines on loan despite defeat
Manchester United youngsters enjoyed a mixed Saturday afternoon of action.
Accrington Stanley’s Sonny Aljofree suffered a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Salford City.
The 19 year old played all 90 minutes and made an incredible 14 clearances.
He put in an imperious performance winning all three of his ground duels and four out of five of his aerial battles.
Aljofree also made three tackles and completed one interception.
The only flaw in his performance was he struggled to get on the ball, making only nine of 17 passes.
Fellow academy centre back Rhys Bennett was also in action for Fleetwood Town.
After a long spell out of the team he has played in the last four games and played the entirety of the 2-0 loss away to Barrow.
He made four clearances and had two blocked shots as he helped his side stay in the game.
Bennett won five out of eight of his aerial duels but was not so effective on the ground, winning just two out of six ground battles.
He also had 54 touches of the ball, making 18 out of 30 passes in the match.
The 21 year old will be disappointed with his long passing game though, as he could only connect with two out of his 10 attempts.
Youth team keeper Elyh Harrison played another full game for Chester as his side drew 1-1 at home to King’s Lynn Town.
The youngster put in a good showing and was only beaten by a close range header that he could do little about.
The only United man to taste victory was James Nolan, whose Inverness Caledonian Thistle side beat Stenhousemuir 1-0 away from home.
The 19 year old also played the 90 minutes from his usual right back spot.

“A suggestion of tensions”: Ineos playing with fire as schisms appear with key club department
Manchester United’s new owners and the academy system are believed to be at odds with each other over certain decisions being taken.
Ineos have invested heavily in the academy, signing exciting prospects such as Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon.
The under 18s have also been incredible, winning the treble last year and winning all 10 of their league matches this season.
However, not all appears so rosy behind the scenes according to a report by The Manchester Evening News.
The outlet claims that “there has been a suggestion of tensions between Jason Wilcox and some staff, and they are believed to be under added pressure to produce results.”
“Coaches at different age groups are feeling more scrutiny to win games, whereas in the past, the focus would solely be on youth development and not particularly the outcome of a fixture.”
Due to the fine results of the under 18s this doesn’t seem to be major problem but the under 21s sit 6th in the league, nine points behind Manchester City, so this could potentially become an issue for the new owners.
In addition, due to the cost-cutting policies implemented by the Ineos group at the club, “some highly skilled staff were lost in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s club-wide restructure” and there have been significant doubts about some of the hires that Ineos have made.
“Simon Wiles from Salford City, who left his position as a first-team coach to become the Under-14 coach” has raised some eyebrows, for example.
The scale of change has also been a surprise to many at the club as “it initially appeared that Ineos’ changes to the academy would be minimal”.
Nonetheless, it has become clear that they are aiming to make significantly deeper, longer-lasting alterations to how United go about things at youth level.
It is a fine balance for Ineos to find as of course they want to do things their way, but arguably the youth system is one element of the club that does not need a huge amount of upheaval when you consider the success of the teams and quality of players recruited long before Ineos arrived on the scene.

United’s in-form sensation aiming to break team’s recent curse against Bournemouth today
Manchester United take on AFC Bournemouth today, aiming for their second Premier League win in a row after last weekend’s derby success.
The Red Devils have only played against the Cherries 22 times, winning 14, drawing four and losing four times.
United will also be looking to recover from a crazy, error-strewn performance which saw them lose 4-3 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
It will be no easy task however as only Liverpool, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have earned more points across the past 10 matches than Bournemouth’s 17.
Here are three storylines to whet the appetite.
United seeking revenge for last season
The Red Devils also played Bournemouth at Old Trafford in December last season but they will be looking for a very different outcome.
They were taken apart 3-0 by the visitors with Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi finding the back of the net.
United also could count themselves rather lucky to pick up one point last April when they escaped the Vitality Stadium with a 2-2 draw.
The Cherries have only won three out of 14 league games between the two sides however as United have dominated the fixture historically. They did lose the first Premier League game between the two sides back in the 2015/2016 season, however.
Bruno Fernandes will want to keep up top form
Bruno Fernandes started the season poorly for his standards but has roared back into life since the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
According to the BBC, “Bruno Fernandes has scored four goals and assisted three in seven Premier League appearances since Erik ten Hag was sacked.”
He recently scored in the win at City which brought his side level and provided an assist for Joshua Zirkzee on Thursday night at Spurs.
All in all, he has six goals and 10 assists in all competitions as he has proven his worth to the team once more and he will be desperate to lead his side to an all-important victory against Bournemouth to give his fans some Christmas cheer.
Amad Diallo will aim to maintain his hot streak
Amad has been United’s standout man since Ten Hag left the club.
The Ivorian has provided “a league-high five assists since the start of November” and has been a thorn in the side of any team he has come up against.
He won the penalty against City last time out and scored a wonderful goal to give his side a win that will last long in the memory.
He had to make do with a place on the bench against Spurs but his incredible pressing led to a goal and he also provided an assist for Jonny Evans to head in United’s third.
To highlight his importance, no Manchester United player has produced more goals or assists at a better rate than Amad Diallo this season with the Ivorian international returning a contribution every 111 minutes.
