Manchester United’s summer business appeared to have reached its conclusion with the Premier League transfer window closing yesterday.
Erik ten Hag made some notable additions to his first team squad, clearing out a lot of dead wood in the process.
However, there may yet be one more departure from Old Trafford with Christian Eriksen still subject of interest from Europe.
As reported by Sport Witness, Belgian side Anderlecht are hoping to secure the services of the 32-year-old.
The transfer window in Belgium remains open until September 6th, which could result in Eriksen ending his stay in Manchester.
Local media suggest if a deal is to be struck it will “probably happen only on September 3rd or 4th,” with the latter being the last date for Anderlecht to submit their squad for the European competition.
Ajax have also registered their interest in taking Eriksen back to the Netherlands but with the Dutch window closing on Monday, that now looks unlikely.
Therefore Anderlecht may have a clear run at persuading the Dane to move across to the Pro League and they will continue with talks over the next few days.
Contact with Eriksen’s representatives has already been made and given his status at Old Trafford, he may well be open to the move.
Manuel Ugarte’s arrival will only further push Eriksen down the pecking at United and if the former Brentford and Spurs man wants first team action, he will be better served leaving the club.
However, Ten Hag is in no rush to move the player on as he will be providing some valuable experience in and around the squad. In fact, United rejected a loan offer from Real Betis for him yesterday after the manager blocked the deal.
Whether the cash involved in a permanent deal would be enough to persuade the Dutchman to change his mind remains to be seen as Anderlecht are yet to submit a formal bid.
