Former Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha is nearing a move to Olympique Lyonnais after falling down the pecking order at Galatasaray.
Zaha only moved to Istanbul last summer as a free agent after departing his boyhood club, Crystal Palace.
Following a promising start in Turkey, he failed to cement his place in the starting lineup of Galatasaray, leading to interest from elsewhere, according to The Athletic.
One of his 10 goals for the Turkish giants came against his former club United in the Champions League group stage clash at Old Trafford late in 2023.
Considering how impressive he was with Palace across two spells either side of an underwhelming stint at United, Zaha still attracted interest from Premier League teams this summer.
His former club Palace as well as newly-promoted Leicester City were interested in bringing him back to the Premier League.
However, the Athletic report adds that moving to France would help Zaha “avoid the tax complications” he would have faced by returning to the UK.
It reads: “Leicester had been working on a loan for Zaha, while Palace also explored the possibility, but a potential return to the Premier League was complicated because of the tax liabilities he would incur once on UK shores again.”
The situation seems to have benefitted Lyon, who are closing in on finalising his loan move.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal is already in place with Galatasaray and the 31-year-old winger, and work is being done on final details.
