Manchester United are set to face Barnsley at home in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The victory over the Magpies brought an end to United’s six-year goal drought.
The Red Devils will undoubtedly be looking to go further this term after being dumped out by Eddie Howe’s side last term at home.
Amidst confirmation of United’s opponents in the third round of the Carabao Cup, it’s important to note that there have been some major alterations to the competition.

As confirmed here by United, Ten Hag and his players will play the Carabao Cup tie in the week commencing 16 September, ahead of their Premier League clash vs. Crystal Palace on the following Sunday.
This scheduling change means that United will not meet any English teams that are taking part in the Champions League. These outfits are Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa.
United further state, “The competition [Carabao Cup] is no longer regional with northern and southern ties discontinued from this round onwards.”
The 20-time English champions will certainly fancy their chances of beating Barnsley – who play in League One – and proceeding to the fourth round.
A few weeks ago, Ten Hag stressed that United are aiming to compete on all fronts, and the first step towards winning the Carabao Cup is to get past Darrell Clarke’s side.
United return to top-flight action this weekend when they host bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
