Joshua Zirkzee made the difference but this star ran the show for United vs. Fulham

Manchester United beat Fulham 1-0 at Old Trafford in their 2024/25 Premier League opener. Here are our player ratings for the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana  6 – Came rushing out of his line when required to do so and also came out to collect the ball from set-pieces. Brilliant save to keep Kenny Tete’s powerful shot from flying into the back of the net.

Noussair Mazraoui 7 – Fantastic debut. Easy to see why Erik ten Hag was keen to bring him in. Press-resistant assured passing and calm and collected on the ball. Barely broke a sweat and produced a huge block to prevent Iwobi from testing Onana early on.

Harry Maguire  7 – Outstanding. United’s best centre-half tonight. He was immense in the air and was a commanding presence at the back. Made a very crucial block when two Fulham players were running at him and in the process, prevented them from having a clear pathway to Onana.

Lisandro Martinez  4 – Didn’t look like himself tonight. Some dodgy moments like when he let Adama Traore brush him aside during the opening 45 minutes and also made a poor pass to Mazraoui that kept Fulham’s attack going. Still has a lot to do before getting fully back to speed. A good clearance to keep Pereira’s cross from connecting with a Fulham player.

Casemiro  9  – Ran the show tonight. First instinct was always to pass forward and he always looked to get involved in offensive play. Was a useful tool in both boxes and had two or three cracks at goal from outside the box. United fans are in for a treat if the Brazilian has started as he means to go for the rest of the campaign.

Kobbie Mainoo 7 – Another classy performance. Clean and tidy on the ball. Barely put a foot wrong and set the tempo for his side in the middle of the park. Produced some nice interceptions that prevented Fulham from breaking through on goal.

Mason Mount  5 – Worked hard and was very good in the press. Had a chance to score when Rashford beat his man and set him up but Leno denied him. United could have however done with a little more incisive passing from him in the middle of the park.

Amad Diallo 6 – Some nice attacking play from Amad. Made a marauding run inside the Fulham box in the first half before being brought down and was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty. Some nice combinations on the right with Mount and Mazraoui.

Marcus Rashford 5 – Didn’t have much impact in the first half. Came alive in the second period as he tried to take on his man and deliver crosses inside the box.

Bruno Fernandes 6 – Had two very clear-cut opportunities to score but couldn’t beat Leno on both occasions. Some nice switches of play from the captain tonight. Faded from the game slightly as the game entered its final stages.

Substitutes

Alejandro Garnacho 7 – Bright spark when he came on and helped stretch the Fulham defence. Gave Robinson something to think about. Missed a golden chance to score with the goal at his mercy.

Joshua Zirkzee 8 – Immediate impact! Broke the deadlock when it mattered and sealed a dream debut.

Jonny Evans 6 – Comfortable and did his job.

Matthijs de Ligt 6 – Same as Evans.

Scott McTominay 6 – Not enough time to make an impact.
