Manchester United are believed to be looking to offload several redundant first-team players before the close of the summer transfer window, including Scott McTominay.
McTominay, 27, has long been a major subject of debate given the uncertainty of whether he still has a future at Old Trafford. While manager Erik ten Hag has heaped praise onto the Scottish midfielder, several clubs including Fulham and Galatasaray have been linked with him.
Another player whose future at Man United hangs in the balance is Jadon Sancho. After being loaned out last season following his fallout with Ten Hag, it appears that there is still a possibility that the winger could depart the club despite making amends with his manager.
Other stars whose United futures appear unclear are Antony, who has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Old Trafford, an ageing Casemiro, whose performances declined significantly last season, and Victor Lindelof, who has never been a first-choice at centre-back.
While the club has not yet voiced a desire to part ways with any of these players, The Athletic revealed this morning that none of them are safe from being axed.
“Scott McTominay‘s future is up in the air, and may not be resolved until the final fortnight of the window,” The Athletic claimed. “Ten Hag spoke glowingly of McTominay’s qualities during United’s U.S. tour, but he is one of the most saleable assets and the club are thought to be open to accepting in the region of £25 million.”
The report claimed that Fulham remained interested despite their previous bids being rejected, while Napoli was also considering an offer. “Everton, Brentford, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce,” the article confirmed.
“United are open to offers on several other players but as stands there is little concrete about inquiries for Jadon Sancho, Antony, or Casemiro,” the report read, continuing, “United will look to shift Victor Lindelof.”
According to the article, McTominay would only move to “the right club” in his eyes. With an increasing number of potential suitors expressing their interest, this could increase the possibility of the midfielder finding his perfect match, with Tottenham Hotspur entering the race as well.
Sancho has attracted interest of his own from Paris Saint-Germain, however, following the French club’s signing of Désiré Doué, he may no longer be needed, meaning another destination for the winger will need to be found.
Although Casemiro’s future has long been up for debate, it appears as if he may be suited to remain at Old Trafford, particularly after his strong display in the FA Community Shield.
While Antony has been disappointing during his United career thus far, there is hope that the arrival of former teammate Noussair Mazraoui at the club could help him to unlock his potential. United will surely hope that this will be the case given the £86 million the club splurged on the Brazilian two years ago.
Although United have been active in the transfer market without sourcing additional finances, the decision to offload underperformers would send a strong message to all players to ensure that they meet the club’s standards. Still, some of these players may be worth keeping should United feel that their potential can be reached.
