Manchester United are all set to announce two new signings but are already planning for further additions which might require the club to move on established stars.
The Red Devils acted decisively in the early weeks of the summer window as they quickly snapped up Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Lille’s Leny Yoro but since then, have been rather quiet.
A deal for Manuel Ugarte has not materialised due to their inability to move on Casemiro and it seemed like the deal for Noussair Mazraoui could also run into problems following complications with regards to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s exit to West Ham.
But the move seems to be back on with the Moroccan and Matthijs de Ligt on their way to Manchester for their respective medicals.
Transfer meeting
INEOS are not done according to The Daily Mail and a transfer meeting is planned on Monday where the hierarchy will discuss not only future incomings but also player sales.
One player whose exit will be discussed is Victor Lindelof. The Swede hardly played in pre-season due to injury and did not appear in the Community Shield against Manchester City with Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire starting instead.
The 30-year-old has slowly become quite injury-prone in recent years, missing 22 games last term. His performance levels have also dipped as a result.
With Leny Yoro and De Ligt joining, United are open to letting the Sweden international leave and he is attracting plenty of interest from abroad though his wage demands have made it difficult for potential suitors.
Some sort of compromise will be needed to move on the former Benfica man this window with Maguire expected to stay put while the club are open to bringing in free agent Mario Hermoso as well.
Lindelof’s future
“United have also been offered free agent Mario Hermoso following his departure from Atletico Madrid and the club will hold another recruitment meeting today to discuss their next targets and who could yet leave with interest building in Victor Lindelof,” the report stated.
As far as further incomings are concerned, the 20-time English league champions are expected to add one or two midfielders with Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen attracting plenty of interest.
With Rasmus Hojlund injured and Joshua Zirkzee yet to gain match-fitness, another forward could be required but for that to happen, Jadon Sancho will need to be sold.
So far, not too many sides are in the race with Paris Saint-Germain also expected to move on after their proposed deal for Desire Doue close to completion.
