Manchester United u18s kicked off their Premier League Cup campaign with an unusual Tuesday lunch time kick off away to Leicester City.
Last season’s cup winners, Adam Lawrence’s side are looking to defend their title starting in a group with Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Leeds United.
The two sides paid respect with a moment of silence before the match for former England and Leicester manager Sven-Göran Eriksson.
Into the match, United looked the more threatening of the sides with Amir Ibragimov coming close on one occasion.
But it was the home side who took the initial lead early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty shot. 17-year-old Olabade Aluko stepped up to convert from the spot past Will Murdock.
With just over ten minutes to go, Gabriele Biancheri came to the rescue with a low driven shot from the right side of the box to draw the match level.
In search of a winner, United applied the pressure to Leicester’s area with Jaydan Kamason delivering a dangerous ball across the box from the right wing.
Deep into injury time, United were awarded a penalty of their own to give them the chance to snatch victory with almost the last kick of the game.
Confident number nine, Biancheri, duly obliged and put away his second of the match to give United the late dramatic victory.
Lawrence’s side not return their attention to the league where they will host rivals Liverpool on Saturday.
United: Murdock, Kamason, Fitzgerald (Armer 46), Mills, Plunkett (Kukonki 46), Bailey (Baumann 72), Devaney, Thwaites, Ibragimov (Kaba 46), Biancheri
